Back from "R&R" for some "R&R"....
Ryan and I drove nearly seventeen hours in two days with 12 of that in one as we returned from the mid-summer debriefing/r&r with two of the SMT05 (Summer Mission Team 2005) teams. Our journey began in Lima and took us to Juliaca via Arequipa where we spent the first night. The next day, due to a potential, transportation strike that was to block the roads for a week, we hurried out of town on the way to Juliaca.
The next four days we were exposed to very sunny days and very cold nights as the temps dipped to below freezing. The covers on my bed were stacked five blankets and one comforter high. It was not easy turning over but I did stay toasty.
All in all the mid-summer debriefing went well as the teams shared about their experiences and we prayed with and for them individually and as teams. The challenges of a scarcity of amenities in the villages plus some personality differences are serving to make them into seasoned missionaries and better friends. Continue to pray for them!
Following this time Ryan, Amanda & I set off for Cusco and a mini-research trip that was to be tagged on the end of our trip. There was a bit of a change as we sent Amanda home by plane so that she could be with one of our teammates who is going home early and they needed to compared ministry notes before the departure this coming week.
Ryan & I continued on and spent parts of two days researching an area so that he could see up close and personal how "on-site" research looks. It went very well.
Our trip back to Lima (less Amanda) was a blur as we were very ready to be back "home" and out of the truck. Eight days and a lot of great scenery and wonderful conversations later we pulled into town and back to the "comforts" of home.
The Lord be praised for His protection and guidance as we traveled nearly 3000 kilometers with no flats, no engine problems, no stomach ailments and lots of blessings.
